Carrying over Annual Leave
Subject to exigencies of duty police officers are entitled to carry over 5 days annual leave to the next leave year. (In West Yorkshire this runs from the 1st April each year)
Officers may also ask to bring forward 5 days annual leave from the following year.
In very exceptional circumstances more than 5 days may be requested.
Recalled to duty on Annual Leave
The following scale of compensation applies where an officer is recalled to duty from a period of annual leave of at least 3 days in duration. At least one of these days must be an annual leave day.
| Annual leave days worked | Compensation in additional days, or additional days and pay |
|---|---|
1 |
2 days (or 1 day annual leave plus 1 days pay at double time) for each day worked |
2 |
4 days (or 2 day annual leave plus 2 days pay at double time) for each day worked |
Thereafter |
1 1/2 days (or 1 day annual leave plus 1/2 days pay at double time) for each further day worked |
In West Yorkshire, for periods of annual leave of less than 3 days, there is a agreement that allows 1 1/2 days compensation for each day worked. There is no financial recompence in these circumstances.
If the period of absence includes rostered rest days, days in lieu of overtime or public holidays, then compensation for working on those days will be in line with the relevant reulation
Although Regulation 33 (Annex O) currently restricts the above compensation to being actually recalled once the leave has commenced, PNB agreement 03/15 states that this should also apply to pre-booked and scheduled periods of annual leave.
Sickness whilst on annual leave
Officers cannot be sick and annual leave at the same time. If this occurs then the officer should contact their force and notify them of the sickness. The leave can then be cancelled and taken at a later date.
However, rostered rest days lost through sickness cannot be reclaimed.
